When Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency was created in 1994, the staff and Board of Directors named the agency after two native prairie grasses.
Big Bluestem and Little Bluestem are two of the primary grasses in the open tall grass prairies that once covered Iowa. The name Bluestem reflects the agency's goal to help protect and restore our natural resources by providing Linn County citizens a comprehensive and environmentally sound waste management system.
